Honestly I am not a current video gamer. Every then and so I play video games and computer games, but it's just not my type of taste. Even though I'm not a consistent video/computer gamer I believe I am a gamer in my own nature.
For the past week in my english 1102 class, my whole class has addressed a topic dealing with being a "Gamer". What does it mean to be a gamer? Reading the passage "Good Video Games and Good Learning" by James Paul Gee, this guy picks out the key learning principles that gives a gamer when the gamer plays game. The main learning principles that I think gets me thinking the most are production, agency, and thinking.
If I'm not a video gamer, than what am I?
PHYSICAL GAMER!
I'm going to switch it up a notch and talk about how the game, SHUTTLECOCK, influences me in the three main principles that I like.
*Shuttlecock = kick bag (if that's a good comparison)

Production: This is very important because it's not only about kicking the shuttle, it involves teamwork and communication to keep that shuttle in the air.
Thinking: I have to be patience with the shuttle and see where it goes as soon as it is kicked up into the air. When I think smartly before I react my motion in my vision becomes slower, and it gives me an advantage.
*Playing video games, computer games, sport games, and other types of games, are always going to involve some sort of learning experience; the best thing about the learning experience is the the act of trying.
I like how you took the way that we've been talking about playing games, and put your own take on it. I'm guessing the picture that you put up is the shuttle thing that you kick? I've never played that game before but it looks cool!
ReplyDeleteI comprehended what you were talking about in your first paragraph because you broke everything down and gave a good explanation on your gamer qualities. The gamer qualities that you chose to mention reflect how you see yourself and I find that very intriguing because it allows others and myself to know more about you
ReplyDeleteRandy what's up my man? I agree with you on this one Randy the act of trying is how I learn my friend told me how to do a 360 on a snowboard but I just had to do it. If I didn't try to do a 360 I would never had laned one, now it is second nature.
ReplyDeleteRandy, shuttlecock seems pretty legit would it be right to compare it to hacky sack? I Googled the term and Badminton came up are they the same? The concepts and ideals you conveyed were all important but i felt strongly about your last line "the best thing about the learning experience is the act of trying." I feel it is most important because if you don't take a few risks you will never learn.
ReplyDeleteI feel like we are all gamers in a way it might be video games, physical games, or even mental games. We all have a competitive side I just think we have to find what we are interested in before we can find the competitiveness in us.
